FabI expressed under high constitutive expression cassette
FabI is an enoyl acyl-carrier-protein reductase, which is involved in type 2 fatty acid synthesis. It is the target for the biocide triclosan, which suppresses growth of E. coli DH5-alpha on agar plates at concentrations above 1 μM. When over-expressed, in this case by expression under the high constitutive expression cassette K314100, this confers resistance to triclosan as there is a sufficient level of FabI for normal function. This part was characterised by showing growth of E. coli DH5-alpha on 1 μM triclosan agar plates.
